Raetihi School in good shape, says BoT
Asummary of the school' s development over the 1996 year was presented at the recent annual meeting of the Raetihi School Board of Trustees (BoT). "From the reports by the chairperson and principal it is clear that the positive developments taking place are gathering momentum despite the pressure facing the education sector generally and that the school is in good heart," said principal Garry Fountain. Some of the main points are as follows: • It is acknowledged that the staff work cooperatively and that a healthy relationshi p has been forged between the BoT and the staff. • A balanced curriculum is being provided and staff are involved in a performance management process which is designed to keep staff up to date and ultimately enhance teacher effectiveness. • The school is well supported by the community and parent bodies which is encouraged through cultural festivals, galas, fundraising ventures, sports coaching and utilisation of community folk with appropriate talents. • The centenary was an overwhelming success with over 1200 in attendance brought about in part by a wellorganised committee. • The school and community newsletters go a long way towards keeping people informed of what is happening and have become an integral part of the school culture. • The school was painted in early July and the newlyappointed property manager can take much of the Credit for the school' s attractive appearance. • A plan to cover the large area between the middle and junior blocks is going ahead (see separate story). • The budget set and approved was expended as per the schedule and it was pleasing to note that expenditures remained within allocation. v "However, we must remain mindful of the fact that donations from Telecom and the centenary committee
amounting to around $15,000 offset what is becoming increasingly inadequate Government funding," said Mr Fountain. "As educators we are always searching for better ways to enhance educational opportunities for our pupils and we can be justifiably proud of the Raetihi School' s positive contribution made to promoting the 'Primary Product'," concluded Mr Fountain.
