Ellesmere romp home against Northern Wanganui
The Ellesmere Rugby Team took to the field at T aihape on Saturday with determination which saw them romp home with a devastating 14-82 win over Northern Wanganui. From a penalty because Northern went in over the top of a maui, Ellesmere were able to break away sending their No 5 in for a try within the first two minutes of play. From the restart Northern conceded another penalty for infringement, but Ellesmere's kick at goal went astray. Tries kept coming for the visitors with their Number 8 Andrea Renata then Sam Broomhall to put points on the board, the score, 0-17. Northern fought back a little at times, but Ellesmere's driving force, particularly in the mauls, was too strong and in the line outs the visitors won more possession. Northern No 8 Paul Ipipi Amani showed some good determined attacking skills but lack of back-up support let them down. Seven more tries were posted on the board and three conversions brought the visitor's score to 0-53 at the break. Northern came out all fired up in the second half and began to show some good skill and flare passing the ball well and showing better, more determind attacking play. Chris Winter came in as half back for Northern in the second half and the team put points on the board at last, Chris doing the honours, taking the score to 7-77, the visitors having notched up four tries and two more conversions. Another try to Northern and a conversion took the score to 14-77, but the visitors had the final say with an unconverted try taking it to 14-82.
