Ruapehu Scouts round-up

Scouts started off the year with scouts and leaders going to a Rangitane area ad venture camp in Wanganui, where there was variety of activities from abseiling, archery, screen printing to candle-making, over a four day period, plus getting together with other scouts from the area. The Martgatepopo Track tramp was scaled down to a tramp to the Taranaki Falls because of bad weather. A number of older scouts have done some training courses to help them to run their patrols. An Easter camp was held at the Ruatiti Domain where 19 scouts attained their master camping patrol challenge award. Term Two, the scouts are planning to do screen printing with their own designs for patrol logos. Cubs/Keas started the year off with a swimming badge module with a great deal of success. The Cubs retained the Waimarino District Cub summer sports trophy competition of athletics between the Ohakune and Waiouru Cub packs. Athletic badges were also attained. They were not so lucky in trying to retain the Mangaweka Cub Trolley Derby Trophy. A lot of fun was had by the small group that attended from Ohakune. Two new leaders, Chrissi and Paddy Mullin, have been welcomed into the group.
