Kids on holiday here, there and everywhere
Stopping for a break on the edge of Alan Proude's farm bush are a group of the younger trampers (pictured) who took part in the Sport Ruapehu tramp last Thursday. Fifteen younger ones tramped with sports co-ordinator Kath Campbell while more than 40 led the way for community constable B ri an Wi lson and sports co-ordinator Cary Hubbard, up onto Waipuna Ridge for some awesome views over the Waimarino countryside. Also part of the Sport Ruapehu holiday programme was a trip to Taupo to the AC Baths for about 60 kids for swimming and hydrosliding. On Wednesday a 'unihoc' kids' hockey tournament was held in the Ruapehu Community Gymnasium, with about 50 children participating.
And on Thursday night a disco also drew very good numbers. Mrs Campbell said numbers had increased hugely since the last programme, held last September. A late change in the programme worked out for the best, when the tramp had to be moved from Wednesday to Thursday which was much better weather-wise. Mrs Campbell said she wanted to thank people for their support for the programme, despite some things going wrong. She said some people were led to believe the $15 for the AC Baths trip included lunch, which was an extra. She apologised for the error in the flier which gave people that impression.
