Country visit from bay

As part of their study of the differences between city and country living, children from Welcome Bay School near Tauranga visited Waiouru and had lunch at the marae with Y ear 3 and 4 classes from Waiouru Pri-

mary School recently. Waiouru was chosen by . the Welcome Bay School as an example of country | life because one of the teachers, Keriana Houia, who is a Territorial Force officer with 6 Hauraki , had ,

made many trips down to this area and severaLof the children come from families with Army connections. For example, teacher Clare Spiers said that she has three children in her class whose parents are retired regular force soldiers. To find out about the differences between city and country living, the Year 3 and 4 classes made up brochures which listed all the attractions available in the Tauranga area. They then wrote several letters to their buddies in Rooms 9, 10, 29 and 30 at Waiouru Primary School and asked them what was available in this area. A comparison of these two lists highlighted the differences, and the similarities, between the two areas.
