A Waiouru Mandy Vine

Nine-year-old Mandy Vine who has only been competing in track events since November last year, has already achieved outstanding results. She recently won a gold anda bronze medal at the Waikato Championships and qualified for the finals of the 200m, ultimately receiving a third place based on times after bad weather caused the cancellation of the event. She trains with the Taumaranui Athletic Club under coach John Murrihy. This Club, which boasts several junior record holders among its members, has just presented Mandy with a trophy for her "dedication and commitment". To prove her all-round abilities, Mandy recently came third out of a field of 76 at a triathlon in Marton which was sponsored by Weetbix and Sport Rangitikei in association with Phillipa and Erin Baker. She has also been selected for a Waiouru junior netball team and plans to enter the Waikato cross-country circuit this winter via the Taumaranui Club.
