'Ski Ruapehu' shows off at park dance

"Ski Ruapehu", the region's seven-year-old marketing campaign, has attracted very high interest from the Ruapehu District, according to council marketing manager Bruce Rollinson. "After originally planning for a 16-page brochure we are now having to produce a 24-page brochure to cater for all the participants involved." "We are in the final stages of production, and while the high numbers have made co-ordination more difficult, it's very pleasing to have more involved. Turangi operators, who for the last two years have undertaken their own promotion, are participating in Ski Ruapehu which is also being tagged as Ruapehu's "official snow holiday guide". Ski Ruapehu was promoted in Wellington last month at the annual Fringe Festival by a group of contemporary dancers, involving a family connection to Rangataua resident Dianne Sotiri. "This very high profile event provided the area with the opportunity to promote its winter brand and keep it in the public eye," said Mr Rollinson. "Dance is probably not something you would normally associate with skiing, but the exposure in one of our main target markets with an event that has such a following was too good an opportunity to miss, and with the Wellington snow show being recently cancelled, it was great we had some exposure in this market," said Mr Rollinson.
