Eye on Ruapehu College
Contributed by the College: Brendon Morgan was elected new student representative for the Ruapehu College Board of Trustees recently. The outgoing representative, Rebecca Clarke, has served the students very well on the board and was congratulated on her hard work by principal Mr Lane. □ New board members are Karen Murdie, Ross Woon and Alan Goodwin. The board meets regularly every month and parents/guardians are reminded that these are public meetings and all are welcome to attend. □ Some Ruapehu College students have done exceptionally well in nationwide competitions. They are: Shaun Fredricksen - New Zealand 125cc Motocross Champion for 1997; Ei Leen Voon - 3rd in U16 Badminton in Australia; Nicola Smith - representing King Country Pony Club in Auckland.
□ Sixth Form geography students went flying on 25 March as part of an innovative curriculum approach by Mr Abie Swast. The students reported seeing their home towns from a new perspective — a birds-eye view — and Renee Waiomio spoke about the experience in assembly. One student learnt that eating and flying don't mix but for others it was an eXciting and exhilarating lesson. □ Anzac Day Service will be held in the school on the first day back from the holidays. Colonel Marshall, commander of the Waiouru Army Training Group, will attend the College on 28 April for the assembly. All parents and guardians are invited to attendat 9am on Monday 28 April. □ Students are on holiday for two weeks from 12 April but many have exams and assignments to consider during this time. For the teachers it is a chance to catch up on marking and preparation for the next term.
