Second motocross title for Shaun

Raetihi motocross rider Shaun Fredricksen has won the New Zealand junior 125cc championship title for the second year in a row. Shaun had to ward off tough competition from 57 riders to win the event, held in Christchurch 6 and 7 April. One of the riders he beat was Australia's Chad Reed who is amongst the best in Australasia. Because he soon turns 17, he is now at senior pro level and faced his first meet last Sunday at Woodville. Shaun said motocross is expensive and appreciates support from sponsors like Super Cross Cycles in Auckland and Wind Gear, as well as his parents' help. Transport of himself and bikes, entry fees, accommodation, uniforms, the cost of the bike and maintenance, and building a training track adds up.

Shaun trained daily for 16 weeks leading to the championships on his own track that he built with his father's help He has trained with Chris Burt, 1982 YZ80 winner, and Cavin Hayes, 1984 winner, and Shane King (500cc world champion).
