Raetihi to lose pharmacy
Raetihi ' s pharmacy is closing within the next two months. Pharmacy owner Lynette Price said yesterday that she deeply regretted having to make the decision, knowing that it was not going to be easy for the town, but that after trying to sell the business for seven years, she had no option. She said it was an unfortunate sign of what's happening to the pharmacy scene throughout the country, especially in rural areas and that many other rural pharmacies will be in the same position. Mrs Price said the margins on pharmaceutical products that the government pays had been heavily reduced in recent years, reducing the viability of such a business. A shortage of pharmacists also made it difficult to find a buyer. There is a possibility that someone could set up a pharmacy agency to serve the town. A similar service exists in Waiouru, after their pharmacy closed down.
