King Country pony club news
Waimarino riders have competed well over the last two weekends in their efforts to win places in the King Country Horse Trials Championship and Dressage Championship teams. The area trial for the horse trials team was held at Kaitieke. Raetihi riders Nicola Smith on Pal-O-Mine and Sally Williams on Integrity were the overall DC and A1 winners en- t suring positions in the team.
The other team members are DC: Hone Brausch, Howards Way (Ohakune); Al: Adrian Fetzer, Silver (Ohakune); and Sue Peeters, Just Bud (Taumarunui). The championships are in Auckland in the April holidays. The dressage trials were held in appalling weather conditions at the Owhango Domain. Despite the heavy rain Raetihi riders Claire Hy land, Wise Guy and Kelly Godfrey , Schnapps were the overall junior and senior winners. The remainder of the team is Junior: Haylie Martin, Thomas (Taumarunui); Hone Brausch, Howards Way (Ohakune); Reserve: Natasha Richardson, Colonel Cadet (Taumarunui); Senior: Hannah Lord, Normandy (Kaitieke); Shelly Gotlieb, Zambuka (Ohakune); Reserve: Sally Williams, Integrity (Raetihi). The zone dressage final is being hosted by the King Country area and will take place in Taumarunui in early May. Four area members were put through their paces on • 23 March to determine who would represent the King Country area at the national Inter-Pacific selections at Cambridge in April. InterPacific is a biennial exchange of pony club teams from Commonwealth countries and this years' exchange is to Hong Kong where a team of five riders will represent New Zealand. To qualify members must be 1 7 years or over and hold their 'B' certificate. Sally Williams of the Raetihi Branch was selected as the King Country representatiye.
