Houston resigns

Ruapehu District Council's chief exeeutive officer Cliff Houston resigned on Thursday last week. Mayor Weston Kirton announced on Thursday that at an emergency council meeting held that day Mr Houston' s resignation was received and accepted with regret. The meeting followed the normal monthly meeting, at which Mr Houston was not present. The resignation is to take effect immediately. "Mr Houston is leaving for personal reasons and goes with the full and unanimous support of the Council," said Mr Kirton. The council has appointed the deputy chief exeeutive, Chris Ryan,

as acting chief exeeutive while a recruitment process is worked through to replace Mr Houston. "Mr Houston has made an enormous contribution to the district during his term of employment since amalgamation in 1989. His innovative approach and wide experience has led the council through huge changes and the council is now in a position to face the challenges ahead," said Mr Kirton. "His commitment to the district has been enormous and he feels it is now time for him to look to the future and new challenges." Staff have been advised of his resignation and it is apparent that many are devastated with the news, concluded Mr Kirton.
