Ruapehu air service not a first
A scheduled air /\ link from the JL JL Ruapehu region and Auckland is not new, lan Strachan of Karioi has pointed out to the Bulletin. In last week ' s story about Mountain Air's new service to Auckland, we wrote that it was a historic point in the development of the tourism industry. But a similar service was started in March 1985, by 'Kiwi Air', an off-shoot of Gold Coast Air of Paraparaumu and not part of the recentiy-failed Ham-Uton-based Kiwi Air. The flights used the Karioi Airstrip, reported the Waimarino Bulletin on Tuesday 5 March 1985. Thereis still the potential for the Mountain Air service to be an important development in the region's tourism industry, as the Karioi service was shortlived.
