Turoa Tumblers seek gym coach
Turoa Tumblers gymnastics club needs a coach for their recreational sessions. Last year the club initially struggled for a coach, but were fortunate to have Jefferene O'Sullivan offer to help, with Cecilia Roke doing the warm up. Clare Mardell, a successful Wellington gymnast, was the competitive squad coach. She is working with nine children 2-3 times a week at the Turoa Tumblers Lodge. The squad works towards badges and competitions. The club would like to continue to offer the weekly recreational sessions. Children generally gaining movement and physical confidence. Parents of the children who participate, have always helped with the setting up and packing away of the gear. They also are rostered on for weekly assistance to the coach. The session times are 3.30-5.00pm on Thursdays at the college gym. Fees are
$35 per term per child or $60 per term per family. Last year up to 40 children attended, finding it very worthwhile especially over winter when the children have often been inside much of the day during bad weather. There is great range of apparatus and equipment thanks to work by parents and Glyn and Wendy Hubbard who used to run the club for many years. The gear is stored at the College Gym. Wendy Hubbard and Janie McNie operate a very successful Topsy Turvy programme for 2-5 year olds and a progression on to Turoa Tumblers is very worthwhile. The club is appealing to the Waimarino community again this year for a recreational session coach. An honourarium is paid to the coach. Anyone interested is asked to phone Sue Laurenson 385-8489 or Katherine Craig 385-8954.
