Eye on Ruapehu College

By Ei Leen Voon (Level 12 Media Studdes) Friday 14 March saw a group of students take to the streets of Raetihi, Ohakune, Waiouru and Taihape, for the annual Multiple Sclerosis Appeal. A total of $2200 was raised, with a percentage of that coming back into the school. Ticket winners were published in the national newspapers on 22 March. • Last Tuesday senior art students visited the Manawatu and Sergeant art galleries. They were given the chance to see top Bursary, Sixth Form and School Certificate work. This was very valuable because it enabled them to compare their own artwork to that on display. • Netball trials were held during lunchtimes last week. The only team to be selected so far is College 1 , which consists of M Wood (Captain), T Edwards (Vice-Capt.), C Bergesen, A Kumeroa, M Mowat, N Brell, R Waiomio, andC Morgan. The other three teams will be announced later this week. • The Inter-whanau summer sports competition was held last Wednesday afternoon. Huia took top

placing in the cricket and touch rugby, came second in softball, third in tennis, and fourth in the volleyball. Tui were placed first in volleyball, third in both touch rugby and softball, and fourth in cricket. Weka took out the tennis but eased off in the other sports, coming third in volleyball and cricket, and fourth in touch rugby and softball. Kiwi did very well to win the softball and come second in everything else. Final results were Tui and Weka 3rd=, Huia 2nd, and Kiwi 1st. • The much publicised work day was held last Friday. This enabled students to go into the community and work to raise funds for travel subsidies and musical instruments. Thanks are extended to all those who employed students for a day. The total amount collected should be available for publishing in this column next week. • On the same Friday, teachers attended a paid union meeting, in Palmerston North. Because of the work day, students did not lose out on any school work, which was a great disappointment to some!
