Council pool use rises

After a slow start, summer patronage at the Ruapehu District Council's swimming pools at Raetihi, Ohakune and Taumarunui has "been most favourable" during the season. "The pools, staffed by qualified, enthusiastic and helpful staff provided much welcome relief to those hot and bothered during the warmer periods of this past summer," said council chief executive Cliff Houston. After hours use by families and groups for an evening dip and barbecue was up on last season and the council hopes that further si*Rh use will develop in the future. Prior to the start of the 1997/98 season the Ohakune pools and buildings are to be painted, a water filter system added to the toddlers' pool at Raetihi, and building maintenance at Taumarunui is programmed. "The Ruapehu District Council thanks all those patrons who took the opportunity to utilise the facilities during the season and looks forward to providing such a service next summer," said Mr Houston.
