Waiouru class goes all night

Waiouru Primary School pupils from Year 4,5 and 6 love school so much that they want to stay there all night! ! Recently, students aged mainly between eight and 10 years had a "camp" at school with activities designed to challenge them both physically and mentally. With their teachers, Nadine Williamson, Rachel Couchman, Rhonda Hodges and several willing parents, the children had a busy schedule from after lunch on Thursday until end of school on Friday. Plans were originally made with the idea of cooking, eating and sleeping in the open air. However, rain forced plans to be modified and activities created quickly to cater for the wet conditions. Burns Pool saved the day and the children spent time there while their parents endeavoured to cook the evening meal in the school hall. Preparations were also under way . to turn the hall into a sleeping area later on in the evening. Breakfast, clearing up and getting ready for school next morning soon had everyone up and going. Another round of activities, such as designing an ideal camp and cooperative games with a team-building component were planned to keep even the most tired children happy. Swimming after lunch was guaranteed to exhaust the staying power of even the hardiest children.
