Family Army day
In spite of overcast weather conditions, the open day for staff and their families held at the Army Depot (TAD) recently attracted a good turnout. "This is the first of many acti vities lined up for the year," commented adjutant, Captain Andrew Peti. "We are trying to give our partners and families an appreciation of what we're doing during our work time." With an intensive afternoon of activities planned, the group climbed into UNIMOGs shortly after 1 pm. To view the size and vastness of the training area, the tour began with a trip to Lake Moawhango which many of the partners had never seen before, in spite of it being available for recreational use. The UNIMOGs then continued down around the nursery area and into the range. Children and partners keen to try their hand at shooting with a Steyr rifle were given a chance to try out their aim at the range. For most of the kids, this part of the day had been eagerly awaited and proved to be the highlight for them, according to one mother. A mini-confidence course with a difference had been organised by the physical training instructors and obstacles with such names as 'black hole', 'cliff hanger' and 'snakes and ladders' awaited the children. For those who successfully completed the course, there was a lolly scramble (many adults were seen to participate in this part of the game but not in the earlier stages!) The day wound up with a BBQ dinner at the All-Arms Inn with children being entertained with videos.
