Playcentre looks at emergency services
Waiouru Playcentre have been learning about important people in their community, as part of their pre-school education programme. With the first emphasis on professionals in the community, the playcentre visited the local dentai nurse, Robin Rewharewha, at Waiouru Primary $chool. Many of the children were happy to climb up the big chair and "open wide" so that Mrs Rewharewha could check their teeth. Continuing the theme, they are now fo-
cusing on emergency services'and the arrival of the fire engine at their premises opposite the Community Centre caused much excitement. With Corporal Zoonie Jacobs in attCndance, the children enjoyed a quiek ride around the Waiouru streets. They also had a ehance to explore the fire engine, or reseue tender as it is offieially known, and ask questions about all the buttons and levers. A visit by one of the local policeman is also planned for this module.
