Waiouru camp cinema re-opens
Waiouru' s entertainment facilities will be boosted from Sunday 23 March with the re-opening of the camp cinema. "The first two days will be important as we need to meet the cost of these showings so that future screenings will make a profit which we can then put back into the community," said organiser Alby Sullivan. Having discussed the idea with Karen Trustcott, Mr Sullivan decided to get the cinema up and running again as a fund-raiser for the community. Profits will be donated to Waiouru's primary school and pre-schools. Mr Sullivan was really pleased with the reception his suggestion
received and thanked the commander, Colonel Ian Marshall, for his support. The Army Depot's Lt Col Wata Hipungo, upgraded the wiring at the cinema and Headquarters Army Training Group waived the rent. Local businesses are also being very supportive, with United Movies supplying the movies and videos at a special price. Mr Sullivan and Ms Trustcott' s time are also being donated. Children under five years get free admission, all afternoon showings are $2.50 to encourage parents to take their children, while the evening features cost $5.
