Eye on Ruapehu College

CoNTRIBUTED BY COLLEGE PUPILS • On Wednesday 5 March Taihape College met for a summer sports exchange with our College. The day went well and the weather did not affect the results much, although some teams would like to blame anything for their poor results. The results were not the best for Ruapehu College with Taihape winning every game. The touch rugby boys' team lost 4-2 and mixed lost 6-0. Taihape's cricket boys won by 75 runs and Taihape girls won by five wickets, and in tennis the results were very close, Taihape winning by only one point, 8-7. • Wednesday a parent-teacher night was held, which went well with many parents tuming up. Parents also had achancetojointhe 'buyabook' appeal. About $1 75 worth of books were purchased from the display by parents for the school library. Parents still wishing to buy a book for the library may do so by contacting the college. • Thursday 6 March the staff challenged Form 7 (Year 13) pupils to a game of volleyball and thrashed them 2-1. In Friday assembly Mr Hynes presented the spoon to

Daniel Forster who accepted it graciously. • Friday 7 March — also during assembly — speeches were heard from the nominated student representatives. Both Rebecca Clarke and Brendon Morgan gave good speeches and were supported well by the culture group. Then during hapu students Form 4 (Year 10) pupils and above got to vote for the speech they preferred. • Tomorrow (Wednesday) pupils will be going to the Wanganui Schools Athletics Association Championship at Cook's Gardens. Pupils chosen are those who did well in the College athletics. • A recount of the athletics sports points has put Tui into second place. Kiwi retain first and the recount on the swimming sports points has put Kiwi into second place while Tui retains first place. Watch this space for a points composition update.
