Historic classification for Grand Chateau

The Chateau Tongariro building, now known as the Grand Chateau, has been classified as a Category One building by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust, Ruapehu District councillors were told at their last meeting. An application to the trust to classify the Acclimatisation Office in Raetihi as a his-

toric place was unsuccessful, turned down mainly because the building had been relocated which "removes the artefact from its context, ie., the land". The council was informed that Rangataua resident Dorothy Battersby was also amember of the trust, along with the council' s representative Bob Peck.
