Raetihi gala makes $3000 in the rain

Rotten luck with the weather did not stop about 100 parents and friends gathering for the Raetihi School gala last Thursday. A lot of effort was made this year by parents, teachers and Friends of Raetihi School (FORS) committee and the board of trustees who all pitched in to organise a wide range of activities and entertainment. Acti vities included motorbike rides, target shooting, plenty of choices in the food lines such as a sausage sizzle, hangi, hot chips, toffee apples and candifloss. Stalls sold fruit and vegetables, pre-

serves, white elephant goods, cakes, cookies and crafts and raffle tickets. Entertainment included the school' s Maori culture group, line dancing group, the Golden Girls and Boot Scooters line dancing. Vladimir and Olga Chirikov, from Russia and now U ving in Ohakune, were they ' re promoting their wood carving, especially their wooden bird mobiles. School principal Grant Fountain said he thought the gala went well in spite of the weather and that they were pleased with the result, making near to $3000.
