Wheely weekend of fun for all!

"Come and join the fun and have a wheely good weekend!" is the intro for the Ohakune Carnival of Wheels weekend, which starts Saturday. It's the fourth year that Ohakune has hosted the Carnival Of Wheels — a weekend packed full of fun, excitement and of course, wheels ! There is something for everyone, and be you a participant or a spectator, you are sure to have a great time, says organiser Kath Campbell. . Programme Saturday 1 5 March 8.00am Saturday Powderhorn Chateau Round The Mountains Cycle Relay This year seesjhe first fun cycle relay around the mountains. Y ou can choose to be in a team of as few as four people, or as many as eight, biking 20-40km each to complete the 1 60km cir-

cumnavigation. Details regarding composition of teams and entry fees are in the entry form — see the council office or the information centre, or call the council, 385-8364. The emphasis is on FUN. There are no placings, but major spot prizes including a great

Prize giving to be held at 4.00pm at Turoa Lodge. 10.30am - Ohakune Hotel Lion Ruapehu Classic A race for the country's serious cyclists — 160km around the mountains. This race is designated as one of the five races on the Cycling NZ national points series, and is the richest single stage race in NZ. Only licensed riders are permitted to enter this race. You will witness many of New Zealand's best cyclists in action. Prize giving at Cleches Bar, Ohakune Hotel at 3.30pm. Other events on Saturday are likely to include Ulysses Motorcycle slowest races and bike display, kids races including trikes and two wheelers, Ohakune Retailers Market Day Sunday 1 6 March Sunday ' s events are to be held at Mike Punch's farm, Rangataua, Ratamaire Road, which will be signposted. Fun Finals 4WD vehicles from around the central North Island will converge on Ohakune for the weekend. They set their course on Friday, vehicles are scrutinised in town, at Goddard Engineering on Saturday. The finals along with some excellent spectator viewing are to be held on Sunday at Mike Punch's property, 5km south of Ohakune on

SH 49. 1 1 .00am Winstone Pulp International Clash of the Carnival An event modelled on the popular top town competition — gather together a team of four of your friends, colleagues or family.
