For the second year running, the Ruapehu Bulletin was chosen as a finalist in the Community Newspapers Association competitions, which was judged recently. The Bulletin was one of six finalists in its circulation class in the best all-round newspaper competition. The winner of the class — papers with a circulation between 1300 and 6950 — was the Northland Age. Overall winner was the Christchurch Star (circulation over 25,000 category).
