Chic clothing in town
Elite Chic clothing, a combination of original design and beautiful fabric, has arrived in Ohakune, albeit for a limited time. The company, founded two years ago by Polytechnic sewing tutor Bev Crawford of Gisborne will have a temporary home in Ohakune with the arrival of Luisa Haydock. The clothing will be available to view by appointment only. "There is something in the range for everyone" says Luisa "In the Gisborne store we have customers ranging in age from 16 to 80". As Ms Crawford only ever purchases small quantities of each fabric most of the clothing is literally an original and they are happy to make alterations to garments to suit the individual needs of each customer.
"Changing a few buttons or making a sleeve length different for someone can really change the look of a garment and I can easily do it here". The fabrics used are mostly natural or unusual linens, cotton and wool, and with skirts selling for around $65 should be very popular. Luisa has worked with Bev in Gisborne both as a sewer and salesperson for the past 1 2 months proir to her move to Ohakune. Luisa, originally a theatre costume sewer from England has moved to Ohakune with her partner Grant Walsh, who is the new Sunrise Coast representative for Mountain Carrots in Ohakune. They have plans to stay in the area for at least the winter season, with the hope of getting in some great skiing in the coming months.
