Damp start to camp

The 25 Ruapehu College 3rd formers who camped at Mangawhero Lodge (off the Ohakune Mountain Road) had a soggy start to their 3-day outdoor activity programme when they pitched tents last Wednesday. They all survived the experience and even in those wet conditions on Wednesday managed to enjoy themselves thanks to the availability of the lodge building itself where the three teachers and two senior students helped with organising a variety of indoor games and challenges.

Fortunately the remaining two days of their camp were fine. The purpose of the camps is to allow new intake 3rd-Form (now called Level9) students to get to know each other in less formal surroundings than the College classrooms. This is the second such camp this year and there will be a final one later this week to cater for the remaining 25 students of the 1997 new intake which numbered 75.
