Long Jump record broken at College athletics
Enthusiasm and increased studentparticipation marked the 1997 College Athletic Sports Day last Tuesday. In contrast to last year, fewer records were broken. However two girls succeeded in breaking Ei Leen V oon' s long jump record of 4.49m. Both Erin Martin who jumped 4.80m and Sohpia Pech's jump of 4.50m set new records in this junior girls' event. Families and friends turned out in good numbers to support both the athletes and the Level 1 2 Home Economics sausage sizzle fundraiser. Large number of fired up Kiwi athletes were responsible for Kiwi becoming the winning Whanau with 1556 points. Weka raised its performance this year and with 1312 points just pipped Tui by one point for second placing. Huia came in fourth with 876 points. The day was warm and overcast - ideal conditions for an athletics meet and all events except the Level 1 3 v Staff relay were completed. Champion athletes for 1997 are: Junior Boys; 1 st Brian
