Record numbers at Raetihi ewe sale
Large numbers of stock were presented at Raetihi' s first ewe fair for the year. More than 1 7 ,500 sheep were offered for auction. Prices realised for 2-toothed ewes, ranged from $45.20 up to a top price of $66.50 from G Olds property. Five and six year old a/m fetched between $37.00 and $49.50. There were a small number of lambs in the yards Romney, Suffolk, 2-tooth Lincoln Chev cross and Eastern Fresian cross ram lambs. For many the fair is an annual draft of stock from Ohorea and Omerei stations, Manson Estate, I S Todd, A S McGregor, L E Fetzer, Makino Station, F
K Robb, B Kavanagh, Ruatiti Station, Te Paenga Station, P Anderson, Omunga Farm, J Scarrow, J B Martin, Goldfinch Estate, Kennedy Bros and Millie Chan. The large attendance. included buyers from Hawkes Bay, Masterton and Wanganui as well as many locals. Prices for rams went for $45 for five and six year olds and 2-tooths for $70 to $100. According to auctioneers and farms alike, prices remain fairly buoyant, thoqgh there were some stock passed in. However, those that were negotiated terms later.
