New venture for Waiouru butcher
"Making things even easier for the farmers" is the strategy behind a new venture from Kelvin Bell of Waiouru Meat Mart. Mr Bell has just taken possession of his new purpose-built home kill trailer which will allow him to kill and process twice the number of beasts as he can now. The new unit was built by Ohakune Engineering and has full Department of Health and local Countil approval. "The farmers will have to do no more than select the beasts and leave them in a paddock for us," says Mr Bell.
"We will kill them there and take them to our butchery for processing". The new unit will mean that Mr Bell can easily cover a larger area and is looking to service the areas from Taihape, Ohakune, Raetihi and and National Park. The shop premises in the Community Centre at Waiouru has also just completed a total refurbishment and now has a new separate processing area. If all goes to plan Mr Bell will be looking at hiring another butcher.
