Facelift for Wajouru pool
Waiouru swimming pool, closed shortly before Christmas for much-needed maintenance, has finally re-opened. Sue Harrison, office manager for Waiouru's maintenance company, commented that some of the facility's paintwork dated back to her days in high school. She thought that the redecoration "looks lovely". Although maintenance had been carried out seven years ago, problems with the paint finish had been ongoing, according to Warrant Officer 2nd Grade Brunton. This time a new product was used which provides a five-year warranty. The tiles around the edge of the pool have also been replaced with a special non-slip surface to increase the safety of pool users. The official date for re-opening the pool facilities was advertised as 10 February but it was business as usual a week earlier. Junior classes from the Waiouru Primary School made the most of their time in the water and look forward to another four weeks of swimming lessons and water fun. Although PAE won the contract for the pool upgrade, they concentrated on the surroundings of the pool area and sub-contracted to Dannevirke painter, Martin Beveridge,. for the work on the pool itself.
