Stagnation on Waiouru station restoration
Tranz Rail has e-xpressed concern at the slow progress on restoration of their Waiouru Railway Station, to the Ruapehu District Council. The council leased the station on behalf of a group of Waiouru people who were keen to see the build-
ings steady decline halted and reversed. Tranz Rail agreed, provided a corporate body leased the station on the group's behalf. In a report to the Waiouru Community Board that was to be received at a meeting last night, it was explained that the group has struggled to find enough people to keep the project going, al-
though work was expected to start soon. Meanwhile, the Waiouru Ambulance Service has approached the council seeking a building which could possibly be utilised by the service to house an ambulance and a duty person. The council has no buildings in Waiouru for such a use but it was to be put to
the WCB that if the restoration project team is amenable and appro val to alter the station could be obtained from Tranz Rail "the Ambulance Service request may be fulfilled (while) providing some ongoing security and use of the property". One of the original restoration group members, Peter Pitts, has been asked to ; liaise with the Ambulance I Service to see if such a pro- | posal is feasible and com- ; patible with the restoration group's future intentions.
