Martins farewelled
After a 33-year stay, Diane and Joe Martin were farewelled from Raetihi by friends at the Waimarino club on Friday. The couple are moving to Wanganui to live. Joe has worked for several years in pest control, latterly for the Manawatu Wanganui Regional Council, and Diane has worked for H E Webb Motors for the past five years.
They moved to Raetihi when Joe took up a job with Freeman and R Jackson,, after being told that the lifestyle, including the hunting, was great. They decided to try it for five years which extended to 33. Working in the bush with Nig Timmo followed Joe's time with Freeman and R Jackson. In 1968 he took up work with the Waimarino County Council as noxious weeds andiiydatids officer. He takes up a similar post in Wanganui to his present one, and will work two days a week in this district. Before Webb' s, Diane worked in market gardening, managed the TAB and the Waimarino Club. Both have been active in many sports especially in support of their children. Diane said a highlight was when she and son Kevin won the senior mens and womens squash titles in the same year — 1981.
