How to run up a bra and other skills on offer in night classes
Brassieres and other lingerie are not common home sewers' creations, but that need not be so. That's according to Raetihi seamstress Kathy Dobbs who is soon to start classes for people who want to learn how to make quality lingerie and save money. She says despite what some people think, making lingerie is not difficult and that through her courses people who have reasonable dressmaking skills can master it. Her courses are part of the Ruapehu College community education night classes which offer courses including wood working, computers, yoga, and massage. Kathy will also take a course in creative sewing, carrying on from the work done by Edith McLean. This course will include such crafts as patchwork, embroidery, applique, "all the fancy stuff Why would someone make th'eir own lingerie? Because its much cheaper and can be custom-fitted for women who don't fit the fashion model shapes. "It's surprisingly quick to make and not hard at all," says Kathy.
