Eruption wasn't

Last week's reported eruption of Mt Ruapehu was just hot air on a cold day, reports the Institute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences. There were reports that seismic activity had increased and that there was more vigorous steam and gas activity from the crater. However, no seismic activity above the norm was recorded and IGNS staff put the gas and steam cloud reported by eye witnesses down to atmospheric conditions accentuating the current usual steam emissions. "Nothing happened seismically out of the ordinary," said a IGNS spokesman.
