Top prices & largest lamb tally at Raetihi sale
The largest tally of lambs that this district has seen for many years was presented for sale at the Raetihi
stock sale last Thursday. So said Buster Healy, auctioneer and Waimarino stock agent for Williams and Kettle Ltd. The final
tally for the day's sale was 14,500. Prices were well up on those of last year at the same time, with ram lambs for example up an average
of almost $30 and others showing an increase of about $15-$20. The sale was held in ideal weather conditions last
Thursday with a large cro wd ' of about 80 buyers and farmersfrombothinandoutside [ the district including Taumarunui, Rangitikei, Manawatu, Hawkes Bay,' Waipukurau and Wanganui. Some of the prices were: Ram lambs $33.50 (small framed); otherrams, $39.20 to $47.00; wether lambs, $3 1 .70 to $45 ; other yarding of M/S lambs and C/Os made from $24.70 and up to $47 .00 for the better line. Ewe lambs fetched $24.00 to $36.70. The prices varied for woolly lambs with late bom, small framed ones fetching $26.50 and, from the same station, 1 35 woolly wethers realised $34.00. The tail-end of the sale saw five woolly lambs fetch $48.20. Topping the sale for the day were 35 of Greg Windle's B/F lambs off the Te Wheronui station. There were plenty of smiles on the faces of farmers, according to one auctioneer. "Its good to see that not all is gloom and doom". Buster Healy said he was also pleased that things moved along well, with the job done in two and a half hours.
