Kohanga reo opens to full capacity

Te Aroha Kohanga Reo preschool children and their minders line up for the Bulletin camera Thursday last week after the new facility was officially opened on Saturday. Matiu Mareikura performed the pre-dawn ceremony with help from other Maungarongo Marae folk. The new facility in Karamu Place can accommodate 30 children and they start the year with that number already. When the group was established in 1991 they started with nine children. Pictured with the children are Yvonne Green, at right, who is the kaiako, and kaiawhina Shelley Phillips, Donna Anderson (admin), Lil Green, Rachel Mott and Kathleen Kui. Absent is Monique Kui.
