Competition for skate park design

Designs for a skate park for Ohakune are now being sought, with the added bonus of a draw of spot prizes for entrants. Through the enthusiasm of a group of Ruapehu College students and the initiative of Joel Spry to take the idea further, Ohakune will hopefully have it's own skateboard/ rollerblade park in the not too distant future, says sports co-ordinator Kath Campbell. Submissions were made to council earlier in the year by Ann Vincent from Making Rainbows and Kath Campbell representing Sport Ruapehu. The Waimarino Community Board have supported the concept and the group is now asking for design ideas from members of the public who might use or take an interest in the park. All entries go in to the draw for the host of spot prizes which include a ramp skateboard, knee pads, wrist and elbow supports, posters, vouchers, I rollerblade hire, food, videos and more. "Sport Ruapehu urges you to enter. This is your chance to have a say in the construction of a facility that may well be used by you. Let's do this right and build a park that we're all proud of - what will only happy with your input," said Mrs Campbell.
