Study accolades for Raetihitians
Three ex-Raetihi people have fin ished 1996 on a high note in terms of their education and careers. Lou Brider (nee Araitanga) graduated with a Masters Degree in business administration from Massey University on 6 December.
She was born and raised in Raetihi and educated at Raetihi School and Ruapehu College. She worked in the Raetihi Post Office before it closed in 1989, then for Trustbank Central in Ohakune. Currently Mrs Brider is manager of the Trustbank
branch at Taihape. Mrs Brider said she found the MBA programme to be very interesting and stimulating. "I believe that this postgraduate degree should be most valuable for middle managers who wish to expand their knowledge of other disciplines within their business. She said she is interested in advancing her career in the audit, security and fraud investigatory fields. Mrs Brider said she would like to thank her family and friends for their support and floral tributes and good wishes. Kelly-Anne McNie Kelly- Anne McNie from Orautoha recently received a number of awards for her 1996 efforts at Taratahi Agricultural Centre, near Masterton. She won the Perry Cup for being the ideal trainee, the Federated Farmers cup for the best in the management course and the Taratahi Cup for the best
overall student. Eighteen-year-old KellyAnne is the oldest daughter of Raewyn and Stuart McNie. She attended Orautoha School and Ruapehu College. The 40-week Taratahi course started in January of this year and was an intensive course studying sheep and beef farming pratices with a heavy emphasis on practical study over theory. She is currently at home looking for a shepherding job, while in the meantime she is helping out on the family farm. John Parata Ex-Raetihi engineer John Parata was recently awarded the UDC Finance and NZ Contractors Federation Scholarship, to further his study in highway technology, at the polytechnic in New Plymouth. He was one of two successful scholarship recipients from 19 applicants. He has been working in the ci vil construction industry for several years, hav-
ing started with his father, Hira, in Raetihi. John is studying for his New Zealand Certificate in Engineering (Civil). John has already completed one year at Whangarei, where he also worked in the same capacity. He and his wife Tina and their twp children will now live in Taranaki while he completes his studies. Accolades FROM PAGE 5 The judges considering the application said they were impressed with John' s clear vision of his future career path and role within the industry. They were also impressed with his communication skills and the high standards he sets himself. John acknowledged his brothers, Hira, who has worked for Wanganui Asphalts for 16 years, and Terrance, who works with their father in his business, Parata Construction Ltd Raetihi.
