Turoa to open for summer sightseeing

Turoa Ski Resort will be open for summer sight seeing from Thursday 26 December through until Sunday 6 January. The Movenpick chairlift will be open for summer sightseeing from. 10am - 3.30pm daily depending on weather conditions. Other services that will be available include clothing rental, a souvenir shop, an information centre and Yeti's Cafe in the base area. The cost for a chairlift ride will be $15 for adults, $10 for youths and $40 for a family pass (two adults, four children). "It will be a great opportunity for people to come and have a look at Mt Ruapehu in summer," says general

manager Angus Grimwade. "The ash from the winter' s eruptions can still be seen on the ground. Many visitors to the area see the mountain only covered in snow and so it is an opportunity to see the vegetation and terrain unique to this-active volcano". "Turoa believes it is important to help and assist the local area and businesses by increasing options for summer activities in the region," added Mr Grimwade. "Interest in the Ohakune region and Ruapehu is very high given the exposure generated by the eruptions and the Ruapehu-Lake Taupo Adventure Plateau' Bounce Back campaign."
