Thieves target vital fire station equipment
Waimarino • The Ohakune Fire Station was burgled about midnight Thursday and a generator was stolen. The offenders were disturbed and the generator located nearby. • A Tay Street address was burgled and a television was reported stolen. • Last Wednesday police warned two people in separate incidents for disorderly behaviour after receiving several calls about them. • Early Friday morning two Taihape men were arrested for fighting outside the Ohakune Hotel. • There was also a report of an attempted burglary to an address in Ruapehu Road on Wednesday night. The offender turned off the power to the address and attempted to jemmy open a window. • On Thursday and Friday night someone damaged the "Making Rainbows" shop in Cedar Mall. The side door was kicked in on the first night and the front door had a
rock thrown through it on the second night. • Of concern to the police was a report of a young boy being approached by a man in a white car outside the Ohakune Primary School last Wednesday afternoon. The boy was apparently offered a ride. Police would like to hear from any parents who may be aware of this occurring or the driver of this car. The possibility of it being a genuine offer has not been ruled out at this stage. • Police also received a complaint of an eight-year-old girl being bitten by a dog along Rangataua Road. The matter has been referred to the dog ranger for further investigation. • Police have recovered two sets of golf clubs which they believe are stolen property. Anyonebelievingthey may own these should contact the Ohakune police with a description of their set. • There were two crashes attended during the week. The first was on SH49 where a truck trailer rolled spreading carrots over the road. The other occurred in Raetihi and involved one car crashing. Both occupants were injured and police are aw'aiting blood test results to defermine if alcohol was invoTvea.
