QAMR heralds in MMP

Soldiers from Waiouru-based Queen Alexandra' s Mounted Rifles made up the 100-man royal guard of honour at the state opening of Parliament on 13 December. During the service in Parliament Grounds in Wellington the Governor General , Sir Michael Hardie Boys, accompanied by guard commander Major Joe Dowrick of the Waiouru armoured unit, inspected the soldiers. A 21-gun salute was fired from Point Jerningham at 10am on the Friday to herald the opening of Parliament.
