Raetihi on parade

Despite the dismal weather, with rain on and off all day, the Raetihi Christmas parade and market day attracted a good crowd of around 300 people. There was a variety of stalls selling food, crafts, plants, clothing, second-hand goods, and raffles as well as specials from some of the shops. Many of the empty shops were cleaned up and used to display goods or were decorated with a Christmas theme. One shop was used for Santa' s cave and morning and afternoon tea was sold to raise funds. Several groups provided entertainment, including line dancers including a school group called the "Boot Schoolers" and a senior citizens' group, country and western groups 'Just Country' and the Waimarino Country and Western Group. The parade rolled through at 1 1 .00am with Santa at the rear. For those parents who had their children photographed with Santa, the pictures should be ready by Friday, call
