Educationalists honoured
At the recent conference of the New Zealand Educational In stitute two Ruapehu Branch members were honoured. Tauri Morgan, principal of Waiouru School, was made a Fellow of the Institute in recognitionof his professionalism, strong commitment to Maori education and in particular his assistance and encouragement to the training and development of Maori teachers. Tauri is currently president of the Ruapehu branch. Tiopira (Joe) Te Kiriwai Pohatu was the recipient of the award of Associate. Joe is resource teacher of Maori for the Wanganui area. He has been a member of the Ruapehu branch for 45 years and has represented the branch in many capacities. "He has been a timeless and willing worker in the pursuit of fairer deals and opportunities for teachers and children. Under his guidance, Maori bilingual ad-
vancement in the area has made great strides," said NZEI spokesperson Myra Crowley. He is currently branch treasurer. "Ruapehu branch is proud of the achievements of both these members, " said Mrs Crowley.
