Bridge
On 24 November the Ohakune Bridge Club held their annual summer picnic tournament at the Alpine Restaurant. Play consisted of two sessions of 1 8 boards each and a handicap system for scoring was used. Tracy Ennis and Bjll Te Karu won the first session very convincingly and although several opponents tried to peg them back in the second session their lead was too great and they finished the tournament the deserved winners of the Ohakune Bridge Club summer picnic trophy. Elated by their win, Bill and Tracy decided they would shout supper for the final club night of the year and Brian Eades and co would supply the drinks. The final night of the year was Wednesday 4 December and consisted of 20 boards played over 4&1/2 tables. The North-South competition was won by Heather Cranston and Ron Martin with 52.1 0% (60. 83) and in second play pn. 47.46% (55.00) were Pauline Le Noel and Bob Tumataroa. Marie Perry and Ann Kelly from Taihape won the East-West comnetition on the night but handicapping saw them relegated to their place with 50.29% (57.29). Overall, first place EastWest sent to Rose Martin and Brian Mason who were promoted from second with 61.13% (53.13) and Sarah Hamlin and GloriaKing finished in second with 59.34% (52.08). Tracy Ennis and Bill "Tani" Te Karu decided to relax their standards and enjoy the last evening and consequently denied Mark
Hays and George Drayton fifth place.
