Waimarino Pony Club
Unfortunately its the time of the year when several events clash with Waimarino Pony Club local events and competitors are having to make choices, especially those intending to trial for the up coming Dunstan NIPC Show Jumping Champs to be held in Cambridge on 20-21 January 1 997 and later on the NZPC Champs to be held in Auckland. But this didn't deter the Waimarino Pony Club from holding a most successful games day on Sunday 24 November at the Ohakune Pony Club grounds on the property of the Warren family. Results: Rider 12 years and under over Jumps: Virginia Morris, Galadriel; Bareback Rider Overall: Claire Hyland, Wiseguy; Pony Club team on Flat (four riders): C Morris, V Morris, A Pointon, E Newton; Pony Club Team Overall: C Morris, V Morris, A Pointon, E Newton; 10 years and Under Points Prize: Wayne Smith and Mary Siefert; 11-13 years inclusive Points Prize: V Morris; 14 years and over Points Prize: Claire Hyland and Cameron Morris; Inter-branch Rosette: Raetihi. On the same day the Kaitieke Pony Club held a Hickstead Derby for the first time. The event involves jumping over a cross-coun-try course. Throughout the course show jumps were incorporated between the cross country jumps. Four classes were run: introductory, pretraining, training and open, The open class was won by local rider Nicola Smith and her pony Pal-O-Mine together with Sue Peters and her pony Just Bud. In the afternoon Kaitieke Pony Club held their games
day run in two divisions, Juniors - Pony Club riders, Seniors - Adults. Results from the Junior Division: First Katie Wright, Kaitieke PC; Second Nicola Smith, Raetihi PC; Third Dianna Hammersham, Taumarunui PC; Fourth Tessa Wright, Kaitieke PC.
