Waimarino Golf
L)n baturday the club held a memorial tournament to honour the late Glenn Wallace who died in a fire last year. A large field turned out for the day including 23 non-golfers to try their luck. Some good golf was played in each division. In the senior division Don Windle was first on 42 points with Bryce Henry and Trevor Frederick second on 40, third was Wayne Marsh on 39. In the juniors Craig Dolman was first on 44 points, a very fitting result for Craig to have the top score of the day as he is Glenn' s son. Second on 41
points was Jason Whale and third on 40 points was Deevon Gray. In the ladies division Barbara Deadman with 36 points was first, Loretta Eades on 34 was second and Pat Mcllroy was third with 33 points. In the nongolfers section Marty McGrath was first on 38 points, second was Sidney Mott with 32 points and third on 27 was Arvil Wallace. During prizegiving that evening Craig donated a cup to the club in his father's memory. The club will decide an appropriate competition for the trophy for next season. Sunday's golf saw a smaller than normal field mainly due to the tournament the day before. However, some good golf was played by those who were there. First on 39 points was Wayne Marsh with Terry Geraghty on 37 second. Mike Fraser was third on 35 points. Club members are reminded of the Oasis Tournament at Waiouru next Saturday and the first Christmas tournament at Taihape on Sunday, tee off at Ilam. The Waimarino tournament is the following weekend on Sunday 8 December.
