Waimarino windsurfing
With no water in the Whanganui River thanks to the tides and still no sign of a lake in the Waimarino, Sunday's sailing was adjoumed to Motuopa, Taupo. True to T aupo form, the forecast 20-30 knots turned I out to be zero to 1 5- 1 8 knots with the variations occurring at highly irregular intervals. Hence the observation that 'Taupo doesn't blow, it sucks". However, some good blasts were still had in amongst chilly showers. Squinting to keep the rain out of the eyes while planing at top speed was an interesting sailing experience. In between squalls time was taken to discuss the finer points of deep water starting, winter weight wet suits, and to sift through the weed for Rob's sunnies which had come off in his first gybe attempt. This was despite having earlier convinced the others that he'd never even come close to loosing his specs in the water. Results: Top speed, Rob or Graham depending on who was clocking; Most times planing, Daniel; highest tack, Graham; most eager to freeze, Chris; longest walk, Rob.
