Cats, dogs, sheep and frogs at Orautoha pet day
It was cats, dogs, sheep and frogs, it was rabbits too, but not for stew. The Orautoha school held its pet day last Wednesday 20 November after having postponed it earlier due to wet weather. Wednesday was changeable but they managed to get through the day without a downpour. Other competitions for judges to consider were the collage section, with plenty of imagination and effort going to the 'art' put together by the children; sand saucers; creative pet stockings; vegie animals; stories and baking. There were not as many parents or caregivers present possibly because of the unsettled weather. However those who did show all seemed to enjoy the day. Dorothy Scarrow, Mr and Mrs Fahey (senior), Lynley Graham and Amiria Teki were called to judge the various sections. A farmers' trionman event was to have taken
place but has been postponed until the opening of the sports ground. School principal Andrea Nola congratulated prizewinners and said she was pleased with the children' s effort. Allan Gannon's pet lamb 'Mintie' won the best dressed pet as 'Indian Chief , while Thomas and Christopher Kavanagh came a close second with their entry 'Chum' who was a 'dog-gone cockey'. Results.
