Waimarino Golf

On 2 November the Waimarino Golf Club held their annual Beedees and Alpine Restaurant 36-hole mixed foursomes. Although a smaller field than usual took partplayers came from Hamilton, Wanganui, Wellington, Waiouru. The standard of golf varied from very good to 'interesting' . In the foursomes game the players play alternate shots. So some of the ladies found themselves in positions they aren't used to. Some found themselves in the rough more often. His motives are unclear but Tom Spry was seen heading into the trees with his partner (his wife Ann) on numerous occasions. B arbara Dempsey ' s partner put her in the bunker on Number Three hole so just to prove how good she was and how she doesn't hold a grudge, B arbara hit it out and into the other bunker alongside. Dana and Sue Blackburn had an interesting visit into the bunker on eighteen. Sue went in and had a shot, Dana then had a shot, Sue had a shot, Dana had a shot, etc. Seven shots later and still talking to each other, the game got underway again with comments around the course like "Y ou put it there, you get it out," and, 'Tm sorry dear." It was a good day and despite some of the shots it was proved in the clubhouse later that nothing is sacred when snitching on your golfing partners. Some people will go to any lengths to win a golf ball. However, there were some people who played well and won the prizes. Best Gross was won on the 3 toss by Wayne Marsh and iPat Mcllroy on 175 from

Colin and Rose Nightingale from Waiouru. First in the nett on 139 were John and Helen Hammond. Runner up were the brother and sister combination of Andrew and Jenny Murdie on 141.
